I had the opportunity to see this utterly fantastic film a couple months and I’m glad Sony Pictures Classics has picked it up for US distribution. Apple has premiered the American trailer for the French crime drama, which can be viewed below thanks to FirstShowing or in HD over at Apple. Plot: Condemned to six years in prison, Malik El Djebena cannot read not write. Arriving at the jail entirely alone, he appears younger and more fragile than the other convicts. He is 19 years old. Cornered by the leader of the Corsican gang who rules the prison, he is given a number of “missions” to carry out, toughening him up and gaining the gang leader’s confidence in the process. But Malik is brave and a fast learner, daring to secretly develop his own plans.
A Prophet will be at Sundance Film Festival then get a limited release on February 26th, 2010.
