You can say what you will about the first attempt at turning the ID Software video game classic Doom into a movie, but without it, we couldn’t say “Semper Fi Motherfucker” during sex. At least I couldn’t. Outside of that one cheesy line though, that 2005 movie was pretty horrendous and did not capture the essence of the game at all save for a weird out of place first person shooter sequence. It’s been six years though, so you know what that means? REBOOT.

What’s Playing reports that Universal, who owns the film rights to Doom, is looking to try again with the franchise and this time they are going to do it in, what else, 3D. They are currently script hunting to find the perfect movie that will not only be a cinematic masterpiece, but will make sure we get tons of bullets flying in our faces and a 3 dollar surcharge on our ticket prices. Okay, it’s mostly the first one.

The Doom games are sacred in my family, and I grew up watching my Dad shoot Imp after Imp for hours on end (oh, the days before the internet). The 2005 movie wasn’t the greatest but outside some monsters and a vague plot about being stranded on a moon and fighting demons, the games didn’t give them that much to work with. A plot has to be designed from scratch to make something like this work, and I’m all for another attempt at it. Why not? Beats a Battleship movie at least.

A 3D Doom, yay or nay?
