Variety is shedding light on an extremely hush hush project. Universal has bought The Something for mid-six figures. This is a lot seeing as though the only thing they’ve heard is a pitch. The pitch (which must have been damn good) was presented by Rodney Rothman who is the youngest head writer ever for ‘Late Night with David Letterman’. He will serve as writer and producer on the project. His previous credits include being Executive Producer on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, producing Get Him to the Greek, and recently selling his script called Early Bird to Paramount. The movie, which is being held under the radar, is described to be similar in tone to Zombieland…in space. If there is another self realizing comedy that pokes fun of its own genre it has to be sci-fi. With the amount of common sense lapses or loop holes shown in the narrative it would be a perfect genre to take on. Plus, to be picked up based on only a pitch says something about the general idea in itself.

What other genres do you think should be made into tongue-in-cheek features?
