It’s been a busy few days for Mr. Cruise on the Internet. And probably in real life too, filming movies and such. He’s apparently one of the three mega-stars wanted to star in MGM’s Robocop, Bill Hader has told the world Michael Bacall is done with the Les Grossman spin-off script and now the star is in talks to take on Joseph Kosinski‘s Disney orphan Oblivion, which Universal is in line to take over. The script comes courtesy of William Monahan (The Departed, the upcoming London Boulevard)

Negotiations for the property relies on Kosinski’s ability to make the film for $100 million, no more. TRON: Legacy cost a reported $170 million, and this project reads no less epic in its concept: based on the Radical Publishing graphic novel which originated with Kosinski, Oblivion tells of a near un-liveable Earth, the humans who live above the clouds and the soldier, trapped on Earth, who meets a beautiful survivor and falls in love, despite the dire state of affairs.

Um, hell yes?

Cruise is prepping to star as Stacee Jaxx in Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages adaptation.

Can Kosinski make this sci-fi romance for $100 million? Should Universal let him?
