While box office numbers weren’t stellar and many, including myself, were quite disappointed with Disney’s lackluster Tron: Legacy, it looks like we may be going back to that universe sooner than expected. The update to 1982’s Tron has grossed nearly $300 million worldwide and the original film blogger Harry Knowles has word about a sequel over at AICN. He has heard through “the grapevine” that a Disney “is getting close, incredibly close to having its SEQUEL announced!

Due to my dislike for Legacy, you may think I wouldn’t welcome a sequel, but it may be a good thing. While I’d rather see Disney explore an original idea, they really can only go up after the mess that director Joseph Kosinski produced. Bring in some new writers, and add in a new Daft Punk score, their work being one of my favorites of the year, and we could have a better sequel.

Related to the story, we also have our first look at possible Blu-ray cover art for the original 1982 Tron, which Disney pushed back. See it below via The HD Room.

Would you welcome a Tron 3?
