As his years-old breakthrough undergoes the process of an American remake, André Øvredal has been circling a few potential follow-ups to that hit, Trollhunter, though with little noticeable commitment to any single title. But, despite this possible trepidation, we might wish to take the following news a bit more seriously: according to Variety, Goldcrest Films have tapped the Norwegian helmer for The Autopsy of Jane Doe, a title that’s looking to roll cameras “this winter” — which, some malleable facets of the season’s yearly placements aside, would make us think this is all happening rather soon.
While no cast for something supposedly in our near-future is curious, it sounds as if there is, still, a screenplay. As penned by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, the picture follows a family mortuary — possibly with a specific placement in England, given the notice of London as a shooting location — thrown asunder when “a beautiful young ‘Jane Doe'” arrives, forcing father and son to investigate her death. In this attempt, as typical mystery narratives would dictate, “they discover increasingly bizarre clues, which hold the key to terrifying secrets.” From there I’d (somewhat) presume it follows the typical thriller lines, though it’s said that Øvredal is inheriting a psychological thriller; how that genre comes from this summary does, to some degree, leave me curious.
Impostor Pictures and 42 are producing The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
Are you glad to see the Trollhunter director possibly on the verge of another project? What do you make of Jane Doe‘s first description?
