While talking with Dave Chen on a special /Filmcast episode way back in September, the co-architect of The Social Network score, Trent Reznor, let loose that he would be doing another unmentioned upcoming film. He has now confirmed to New York Times’ Jon Pareles on the streaming Times Talks that he will score David Fincher‘s next film, an adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Without giving a lot of details, he says he has already been working on the score for the past two months with fellow TSN scorer Atticus Ross.
Based off Stieg Larsson‘s popular novel and a script by Steven Zaillian, the film follows “a journalist who is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing — or dead — for forty years by a young female hacker.” I’ve read the novel and it is a fascinating drama that I can’t wait to see handled by Fincher.
The novel trilogy has already been made into Swedish films and they all saw limited US releases in 2010. Fincher’s version features a strong cast of Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, and Stellan Skarsgård. The Nine Inch Nails frontman did one of my favorite scores of the year with The Social Network, so can only expect he will do wonders again.
The film is currently on a long shoot in Sweden, as well as a Los Angeles soundstage and is set for a December 21st, 2011 release.
What do you think of Reznor doing another film score?
