The filmmakers behind the excellent documentary Cocaine Cowboys, director Billy Corben and his Miami-based production company Rakontur, are readying their next film for distribution. Square Grouper: The Godfathers of Ganja takes a look at the 1970s pot scene in Miami. We gave the documentary a positive review at SXSW, which you can read here. Then we sat down with the filmmakers themselves and, after you watch the trailer below (via Apple), I encourage you to check out that interview for more insight.
Synopsis:
A colorful portrait of Miami’s pot smuggling scene of the 1970s, populated with redneck pirates, a ganja-smoking church, and the longest serving marijuana prisoner in American history.
Magnolia will release Billy Corben‘s Square Grouper: The Godfathers of Ganja on April 15th, 2011.
