It wouldn’t be late summer, without some low-rent horror films. This year, one of our offerings is The Possession, produced by horror legend Sam Raimi and thankfully not incorporating found-footage (as far as we can tell). Based on an LA Times article, the film follows some strange happenings when Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s daughter uncovers a evil dibbuk box and insanity ensues.
While the first trailer via Yahoo doesn’t do much to separate it from the pack, I’ve always been a fan of Morgan and hoping he can elevate this tried and true story. Directed by Danish helmer Ole Borneda, check it out below for the film also starring Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis. Also included is a terrifying poster, which these types of horror films always seem to turn out without losing a beat.
Synopsis:
Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
The Possession hits theaters on August 31st.
