If it wasn’t for one over-achiever, Elizabeth Olsen would have easily topped our list of Top Breakthrough Performances of 2011. When it comes to matching up one-to-one, her lead role in Martha Marcy May Marlene was easily my favorite of last year. And even though I saw the premiere at Sundance, it wasn’t the first film I’d seen her in. One of my first viewings last year at the fest was the one-take horror film Silent House.
From Open Water filmmakers Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, I wasn’t a big fan of the film (our reviews here), but after seeing some of the recent crap to arrive in theaters (Apollo 18, The Devil Inside, etc.), this is certainly a step above. And in the end, looking at the gorgeous Olsen run around a house isn’t the worst way to spend an hour-and-a-half. The first trailer has arrived below via Yahoo and it does away with the one gimmick the film has going for it, with its quick edits. It still does a good job to hint at the main threat of the film: the many closing and opening doors. Check it out below.
Synopsis:
Sarah is a young woman who finds herself sealed inside her family’s secluded lake house. With no contact to the outside world, and no way out, panic turns to terror to terror as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house.
Silent House hits theaters March 9th.
