Can I kick it? The in competition line-up for Sundance Film Festival 2011 only went up a few hours ago, and I’ve already discovered a trailer for a documentary entry. Actor Michael Rapaport (Special, Big Fan, Boston Public) makes his directorial debut with Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest, chronicling the story of one of my favorite hip-hop groups. The doc features interviews with members Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi as well as Kanye West, Nas, Mos Def, and the Roots, who were all inspired by them. Check out the trailer below.
Synopsis: The story of the rise and influence of one of the most innovative and influential hip hop bands of all time, the collective known as A Tribe Called Quest.
The 2011 Sundance Film Festival runs January 20-30 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
