Returning to Sundance this year, Lynn Shelton delivered her highest-profile feature yet, Laggies. Starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz, Sam Rockwell, and more, it follows our lead as a perpetual adolescent in her late 20’s who gets proposed to but freaks out and decides to retreat to the home of a new friend, played by Moretz. Following a Sundance premiere, A24 snagged up the rights and ahead of a fall release, the first trailer has dropped today.
We were pretty mixed it on it out of Sundance, saying in our review, “While individual scenes provide laughs and even a few moments of sincere drama, overall Laggies is an uneven, cloying experience centered around a story that gives little reason why it should be told.” Check out the trailer and teaser poster below for the film also starring Mark Webber, Ellie Kemper, Jeff Garlin, Gretchen Mol, and Kaitlyn Dever.
Having spent her twenties comfortably inert, 28 year old Megan (Keira Knightley) reaches a crisis when she finds herself squarely in adulthood with no career prospects, no particular motivation to pursue any and no one to relate to, including her high school boyfriend (Mark Webber). When he proposes, Megan panics and given an opportunity to escape – at least temporarily – she hides out in the home of her new friend, 16-year-old Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Annika’s world-weary single dad (Sam Rockwell).
Laggies opens on October 24th.
