Congrats to Disney/Pixar as well as Lee Unkrich. Toy Story 3 has officially topped Paramount/DreamWorks’ Shrek 2 to become the single highest grossing animated film ever. [THR]
The third Toy Story film has accumulated $920 million across all markets, beating Shrek 2‘s $919.8 million. It is also Disney’s forth highest film, with just the last two Pirates of the Caribbean film and Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland. With TS3 able to rake in more cash in the coming weeks, it has the chance to possibly be the first $1 billion grossing animated film.
It will also cross the $400 million mark here in the US this weekend, becoming Disney’s 2nd highest domestic gross. Only Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is ahead with $423 million.
You can still enjoy Toy Story 3 in most theaters and the Blu-ray/DVD comes out November 2nd.
How many times did you see Toy Story 3 in theaters? Is it worth the box office acclaim?
