Action auteur Tony Scott has his next project, and all the main actors and financiers are (nearly) ready to act.

The film’s Potsdamer Platz, and it concerns “two soldiers in a New Jersey-based crime family who try to expand internationally” [Deadline Hollywood].

The screenplay, initially written by Buddy Giovinazzo, has been taken on by Sexy Beast scribes David Scinto and Louis Mellis.

Fox has first look for Scott Free projects , but Relativity Media and Lionsgate are reportedly interested in the film. Fox recently gave Scott around $90 million to make his runaway train pic Unstoppable with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, due out this fall. This drama is budgeted around $40 million and sounds a bit more dramatically ambitious, i.e. something more up Relativity’s alley these days. But who knows? Maybe Fox will change its tide at some point.

Either way, here’s hoping Statham gets to show off some acting chops. It feels like there’s a talented (not just action) performer in there.
