It appears that the Bourne series has found its new director as Deadline is reporting that Duplicity and  Michael Clayton director Tony Gilroy (who served as screenwriter for the first three films) will take over for Paul Greengrass for the fourth installment of the franchise.  Both Greengrass (who directed the latter two films in the initial trilogy) and star Matt Damon had announced they would not be returning for a fourth film but Universal made it clear they would be moving on without them. With Gilroy taking over the helm, however, one must wonder if that will lure Damon back in the starring role.

We recently speculated on what director’s were capable of taking over the franchise and Gilroy landed at number one on our predictions. The screenwriter makes sense as a replacement as he has recently broken into directing (even being nominated for an Oscar for his work on Michael Clayton) and clearly knows the series well.

Are you excited to see Gilroy take over as director for the fourth Bourne film?
