How does one follow up one of the most successful film franchises of all-time? After finishing the last half of the Harry Potter saga, director David Yates has been piling up the possible projects but now we’ve finally got word on what he’ll do next. Vulture is reporting the helmer has now signed on to the big-budget adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs‘ Tarzan in a re-team with Warner Bros.
Although he just signed on to the project last week, WB is already lining up some of their top talent for meetings. Two stars of their upcoming 2013 summer tentpoles are on the list, including Man of Steel lead Henry Cavill and Pacific Rim‘s Charlie Hunnam, while their Inception and The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is being looked at, but possibly less interested in the project. Another hat in the ring is True Blood and Battleship star Alexander Skarsgård.
While I can’t imagine many clamoring for a new version of this story — especially what will likely be an everpopular gritty, dark take — but it’s not a bad round-up of actors. I could certainly see someone on the rise like Hunnam go for it, rather than Cavill, who is likely committed to his Superman with Justice League incoming.
Who would you like to see take the role of Tarzan?
