Little has been known about Joel Silver and Todd Phillips‘ new project with British commercial director Nima Nourizadeh tentatively called Project X, however now we’re given more information about where this strange low-budget hard R comedy project is heading thanks to First Showing.
The basic premise is that it’s a party movie. We follow character at this party while they interact with each other and the elements taking place at the party. Basic, right? Well here’s the twist. It’s going to be shot cinema-vérité style and in 3D. So the movie will try to have a sense of realism not found in other comedies and bring a new depth (literally and figuratively) to the genre with 3D.
In theory, this sounds like and extremely experimental (for the genre) comedy that could have plenty of backing if done right. The cinema-vérité style could call for some artistic moments in the film (once again, for being a frat-boy-comedy). For all that’s known 3D could help us become apart of the party, so long as it’s shot in 3D to begin with. It has a low 12 million budget so it’s unlikely. However, party comedies usually don’t cost much so a majority of the budget could go into having the 3D worked in.
Do you think this is a good idea for a comedy, or a disaster right off the bat?
