It seems that Tobey Maguire is having no trouble hanging up his Spiderman suit. In addition to producing Pawn Sacrifice, the biopic of famous chess master Bobby Fischer, Maguire is also reportedly looking at the the lead role.
Bobby Fischer is considered to be one of the greatest chess players of all-time, reaching grandmaster stature as a teenager, reaching global legendary status in his 30s. The film will be focusing on the all-important 1972 match between Fischer and Boris Spassky, known by many as “The Match of the Century.” This highly publicized Cold War era match ended a 24 year Soviet victory streak, making Fischer the first official American World Champion.
The script is by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises), who was recently hired by Columbia to adapt Dan Brown’s novel The Lost Symbol. No word yet on a possible release date.
