With entries into the subgenre of Christmas comedies being few and far between, when a new one pops up, we’re usually attentive. Following A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas a few years ago, the next in line is coming together and we’ve got new some promising casting details on the project.
Coming from frequent TV director Tristram Shapeero (Community, Parks and Recreation, Bored to Death), the film is titled A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle and The Wrap reports that the ensemble will include Robin Williams, Joel McHale, Tim Heidecker and Wendi McLendon-Covey. With a script by Wreck It-Ralph‘s Phil Johnston, we follow the Community star as Boyd Mitchler, who “takes his wife and son to visit his family for Christmas. Mitchler soon realizes he left all his son’s gifts at home, so he, his father (Williams) and brother set off to salvage the holiday.”
Reno 911!‘s McLendon-Covey is set to play the daughter of Williams, described as “a mother of three who still breast feeds her 4-year-old,” while Heidecker is on board a her trucker husband Dave, and we’ve also got a batch of child casting. Looper‘s Pierce Gagnon, Super 8‘s Ryan Lee, The Descendant‘s Amara Miller and Bebe Wood (The New Normal) are all on board in various roles in the family. Shapeero has some true comedic talent in front of the camera, so let’s hope he makes a bit of a subversive entry into this subgenre, one that will be hopefully ready by year’s end.
