Update: Friends With Kids has been confirmed for TIFF 2011. Check out our extensive coverage here and read our Friends With Kids review here.
I learned two things while listening to the latest episode of Doug Benson‘s podcast Doug Love Movies. The first, which I already gleaned from Bridesmaids, is that Jon Hamm is a comedic genius. The second was that the Mad Men star is hoping to premiere his next film Friends With Kids at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival this September. He appeared on the show with his co-star Adam Scott and when asked if it has a release date, he responded no, but that “it’ll go to the festivals, hopefully Toronto” and that he will there for the premiere.
Hamm reunites with his Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Chris O’Dowd in the film, which directed by his bride in real life, Jennifer Westfeldt. The cast also includes Megan Fox and Edward Burns for the film in which Scott described as being about “a bunch of friends that have kids.” Hamm chimed in a bit more and said it follows “a group of friends who start to have kids and then some of the friends don’t have kids, and [it’s about] what happens when all of the people start having kids and you don’t and you feel like a total douchebag.”
When we posted the first set pictures, we had an extended synopsis that stated we follow “a couple of friends, who when confronted by the stress conventional childbearing has placed on their peers decide they will avoid the typical pitfalls by having a child together while dating other people.”
No other TIFF 2011 titles have been confirmed, but check out our list of rumored Venice titles and you can bet we’ll see a lot of crossover. A few include David Cronenberg‘s A Dangerous Method and Roman Polanski‘s Carnage, Todd Solondz‘s Dark Horse, Steve McQueen‘s Shame, George Clooney‘s Ides of March, Andrea Arnold‘s Wuthering Heights, and Tomas Alfredson‘s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. As of today, I just filed for returning press accreditation so check back for TIFF coverage and the complete line-up later this summer.
Toronto International Film Festival 2011 runs from September 8th to 18th.
Are you looking forward to Friends With Kids? Is TIFF a good platform for launching the title?
