sincity2

IESB is now reporting that The Weinstein Company has lost the rights to make Sin City 2. Now the sequel will be financed by a private equity group and Robert Rodriguez’s (Planet Terror) Troublemaker Studios will still be producing, and there is already a completed script. Sin City was released back in 2005 and was a box office hit. With only a reported budget of 40 million, Sin City went on to make 158 million dollars world wide and also made sold millions of DVDs.

UPDATE via FirstShowing : According to Entertainment Weekly, this news just ain’t true. “TWC’s rights to produce sequels to Sin City remain intact as they always have been. Any suggestion to the contrary is complete hogwash,” said TWC lawyer Bert Fields. Another source close to Rodriguez said, “It’s not true. That’s a rumor that’s been going around for a while. It’s really just a matter of timing, and he hopes to do it with them in the near future.”

This is great news, it always seemed as if Sin City 2 was never going to happen and that we would always just be hearing endless rumors about it. This obviously doesn’t mean that it will be made, but its a sign of hope. I was a big fan of Sin City, and there are plenty of more stories from the series that would make for great movies.
