Sorry Sucker Punch and Cowboys & Aliens, but your only real shot at an Oscar just went out the window. Those two blockbusters, along with Thor, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Super 8 were left off the The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science’ shortlist for Achievement in Visual Effects Oscar.
One can see the ten films below, which include the only time a Terrence Malick and a Michael Bay picture will be in the same category. I’d love to see the former nab the Oscar, as it is some of the most inventive and spectacular VFX of the year. It was also nice to see Hugo, The Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Ghotocol get a shout-out, but I’d expect X-Men: First Class will get cut as it had some shoddy work, along with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Check them all out below.
Captain America: The First Avenger
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Hugo
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Real Steel
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
The Tree of Life
X-Men: First Class
Thanks to indieWIRE, see more details below.
