Latino Review is reporting (via Coming Soon) that Fox has picked the rights for the comic book hero The Shadow, which originated in the 1930s as a radio serial (voiced by Orson Welles in some episodes). Sam Raimi is still attached to produce the film, despite the studio switch. He may also direct, but that’s most likely not the case. LR reports that Raimi is warming David Slade up to the directing task.
Sony was rumored to own the rights. Only 16 years ago, Universal produced a live-action feature of the comic-strip hero, starring Alec Baldwin as the dashing Lamont Cranston, who moonlights as hero vigilante The Shadow.
The Shadow’s super power? Invisibility. Hmph. It’s a tough sell. Was in ’94, will be whenever this project gets off the ground. That said, Lamont Cranston’s Bruce Wayne-ness is intriguing at first look, and if Fox can get someone as interesting as Baldwin should have been as the hero, it could work.
