I loved Enchanted. Every second of that Disney throwback was full of joy and entertainment. Now, Variety reports a sequel to the 2007 hit is in the works. They have hired The Proposal director Anne Fletcher to take on the film, with a script written by Jessie Nelson (Because I Said So, Stepmom, I Am Sam). Disney will “likely” want to bring back the stars including Amy Adams, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey and Susan Sarandon. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are signed on to produce again. It’s no surprise that Disney has been dying for a sequel, after the film earned over $340 million worldwide. Variety reports the “first film had languished in development for years as filmmakers like Sonnenfeld struggled with a way to tackle the pic’s comedic tone, musical numbers and blend of animation and live action sequences.” Now, they have Fletcher who used to be a choreographer and has taken on Step Up as well as 27 Dresses. She also showed big box office power with this summer’s The Proposal.

Although I found The Proposal to be pretty mindless, I’m sure Fletcher can do great work here. As I’ve stated, I was shocked how great the first film was and hope they can recreate the magic for the next.

Disney wants Enchanted 2 to hit theaters next year.
