Since you are probably as tired as I am surrounding The Hobbit news, I’ll try and keep this as short and simple as possible. Peter Jackson has confirmed the first of his cast with the main lead of Bilbo Baggins going to the much-rumored Martin Freeman (Hot Fuzz, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy). Deadline has the rest of the cast below.

  • Richard Armitage (MI-5 and Captain America: The First Avenger) will play Thorin Oakenshield.
  • Aidan Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders) will play Kili and Fili, members of the Company of Dwarves.
  • Graham McTavish (Secretariat) will play Dwalin.
  • John Callen (Power Rangers Jungle Fury) will play Oin.
  • Stephen Hunter (All Saints) will play Bombur.
  • Mark Hadlow (King Kong) plays Dori.
  • Peter Hambleton (The Strip) will play Gloin.

Also looking at roles are James Nesbitt and David Tennant. Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis haven’t signed on yet, but are looking to reprise their roles. Other names in the hat are Stephen Fry, Saoirse Ronan, Bill Nighy and Aiden Turner.

The Hobbit beings back-to-back production in February for a December 2012 and 2013.

I hope we can all get through this ordeal with our souls contacts.
