According to Hollywood-Elsewhere the reason for the lack of footage in the recent trailer for The Expendables is because Stallone and the studio are deciding whether to release the PG-13 cut or the R rated cut. Seriously? Releasing the film with a PG-13 rating? That would be the worst possible decision they could make.
I’m not even sure if I believe this considering Stallone has already confirmed that the film will be a hard R rating. It seems the pressure is coming from the studio though and they are pushing him hard to release the PG-13 cut. Honestly though, this film would be ruined with a PG-13 rating. Everyone is anticipating hardcore, in-your-face, R-rated violence and that is exactly what we better get. While a R-rated cut would inevitably be released on DVD even if the film was PG-13, if that happens I’m sure it would dissuade many from seeing it in theaters.
The Expendables comes out August 13th regardless of the rating.
