Coming to us straight from Heat Vision is news that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are teaming up to to develop the graphic novel Legends for the big screen. The graphic novel is set in a dark fantasy world and brings together characters in an Avengers-like style. Now for the best part: the characters are from classic fairytales – Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Jack the Giant Killer and more will make appearances.
Howard and Grazer are producing for Imagine Entertainment while Barry Levine will produce for Radical Pictures.
According to Wikipedia the summary is as follows:
Legends is set in a fictional world settled by creatures know as the Enchanted. The world of the Enchanted has much violence spurned on by different technologies, nature and dark magic. The characters in the Enchanted world come from traditional folklore and literature, and include Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, and Red Hood. These traditional characters have grown up and changed into “outlaws, vigilantes, [and] bounty hunters.” In addition, the characters have become protected by a charm that renders them almost immortal. An exception to this charm is shown when Pinocchio is found violently murdered.
I’m not gonna lie, this sounds like it could be really good. I’ve never read the graphic novel but I’m tempted to check it out. According to Heat Vision Blog, Red Riding Hood is a wolf hunter, Goldilocks is a mercenary and Hansel & Gretel are physical exterminators.
The premise seems like it is sure to be a winner and I can’t wait to hear more about this project.
Have you read the graphic novel?
