With all the hype built up around Marc Webb‘s upcoming Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, it’s amazing that, when all is said and done, we don’t really know what the movie is about. Until now. But, before I get any further, am I the only one who just realized the Spider-Man director’s last name is Webb?
Columbia pictures today released the following statement, which carries light spoilers (via Digital Spy):
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker, an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today.
Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy, and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors, his father’s former partner.
As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’s alter ego The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
I’ve never read the comics, so I don’t know if this is an established story arc or not. What I do know is that Andrew Garfield plays Spider-Man, Emma Stone plays the lovely Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans plays The Lizard (whom I’m very much looking forward to seeing), and Martin Sheen and Sally Field play Uncle Ben and Aunt May.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 3rd.
How does this plot compare to the other Spider Man films?
