Earlier this year, Tom Harper’s Wild Rose arrived in the U.S., giving a strong showcase for Jessie Buckley. The director’s second film of 2019 will arrive this December and he’s expanding his scope a great deal. The Aeronauts tells the story fo daredevil balloon pilot Amelia Wren (Felicity Jones) who teams up with pioneering meteorologist James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne) to break records in the sky.
Set to come to TIFF, it’ll likely bow at Telluride this weekend ahead of getting a release in theaters on December 6 and Prime Video on December 20. The film finds Jones and Redmayne reuniting after The Theory of Everything, this time for a film which hopefully has a bit more of a spark. See the first trailer and poster below.
In 1862, daredevil balloon pilot Amelia Wren (Felicity Jones) teams up with pioneering meteorologist James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne) to advance human knowledge of the weather and fly higher than anyone in history. While breaking records and advancing scientific discovery, their voyage to the very edge of existence helps the unlikely pair find their place in the world they have left far below them. But they face physical and emotional challenges in the thin air, as the ascent becomes a fight for survival.
The Aeronauts hits theaters on December 6 and Prime Video on December 20.
