Walt Disney Pictures has revealed the teaser trailer for Tangled, a revamped version of the Disney classic Rapunzel. The film is directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno. Check out the trailer after the cut.
Tangled is an action-packed, swashbuckling, animated musical comedy about the girl (Mandy Moore) stuck in a tower with 70 feet of long blonde hair. She is reinvented here as a feisty princess longing for an adventure after spending 18 years in locked away in a tower. When dashing bandit (Zachary Levi) takes refuge in the tower she takes the opportunity to break free from her prison and escape into the real world. With the secret of her royal heritage hanging in the balance and her captor in pursuit, Rapunzel and her cohort find adventure, heart, humor, and hair… lots of hair.
Tangled seems to draw a lot of similaries to Shrek – socially exiled hero saves Princess from tower and goes on adventure. We even have a frog here to play the sidekick. But this is nothing to whine about, considering Shrek gets its charm from the same fairytales that Disney has been adapting for decades. So far the comedy actually looks pretty good. The greatest disappointment, however, is the CGI which doesn’t look at all like the “stunning CG fantasy world” that Producer Ron Conli promised. Hopefully there’s some improvement before its released in theatres.
Tangled opens in limited theaters on November 12 before going on wide release on November 24
