The two most iconic boxers captured on celluloid may be teaming up for another fight in the ring.
Robert De Niro, who played Jake LaMotta in Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, and Sylvester Stallone, who brought Rocky Balboa to life, are interested in the Warners Bro. project Grudge Match. [Prod Weekly]
After writing the Sinbad vehicle First Kid, this boxing dramedy is the second feature from scribe Tim Kelleher. With a tone compared to Space Cowboys the film “revolves around retired boxers Billy “The Kid” McGuigan and Henry “Razor” Sharp, lifelong bitter rivals who are coaxed out of retirement and into the ring for one final grudge match — 50 years after their last title fight.”
With De Niro and Stallone seemingly joining any project that provides money, I could actually see this getting made. With the success of veteran reunions such as Wild Hogs and RED, the sheer idea of these two icons teaming up is enough to sell tickets. Maybe it won’t be so bad. And I did love First Kid….when I was 8. I mean just look at how cute that damn poster is:
What do you think about this match-up? Could it ever become a possibility?
