After an ultimately unsuccessful franchise reboot in 2006, it appears that Warner Bros. is planning to let the superhero and his legacy gestate for some time, not rushing out to make Bryan Singer’s Man of Steel or any other version of a Superman movie for at least a few years [Thompson on Hollywood].
Thompson writes: “The project is on hold as the studio waits to emerge from legal limbo over the fate of the Superman heirs. It’s about who controls what divided rights going forward and who owes what to whom when. Warners may be trying to settle with the Siegel and Shuster families, who in 2013 will retrieve the copyright of the Superman material published in Detective Comics’ Action Comics Vol. 1, in order to merge all the Superman rights.”
Hence many have gossiped that Warner Bros. would try to pump out another Superman film by 2012, to avoid the “divided rights” that will revolve around any adaptation to take place in 2013 and after.
Thompson suggests that Warner Bros. wants to “start over from scratch,” tickling readers with names like James McTeigue and Wachowski and all of that, though none of them have been approached.
So hold on to your hats, bloggers and fans and haters alike, until Superman returns (again) let opinions of how he should return fly.
