Their similar-sounding titles might have caused a bit of confusion amongst the many films at Sundance this year, but Hellions and The Hallow are two distinctly different horror features, both of which will be arriving this fall. We’ll see the former first, which comes from director Bruce McDonald and will stop by TIFF before a September release. Starring Chloe Rose, Robert Patrick, and Rossif Sutherland, the plot centers around a group of demons going after our lead’s baby on Halloween night.
As for The Hallow, it marks the feature directorial debut from Corin Hardy, who is attached to direct The Crow remake, although we doubt it’ll ever get off the ground. We said in our review, “Don’t go to Ireland or, better yet, don’t go to the part of Ireland where your insane neighbor tells you to stay out of the woods is the moral of The Hallow. Also, when something crashes into your child’s bedroom and somehow slams the door, don’t assume it’s a bird and move on with your lives as if a clear set-up for a horror movie didn’t just occur. Somewhat naive characters and the obvious sense of dread in the introduction implies director Corin Hardy‘s The Hallow isn’t exactly going to reinvent the wheel, but that’s acceptable, considering the final product tells a familiar horror tale notably well.”

A teenager’s Halloween night turns into a terrifying fight to survive when trick-or-treaters from Hell show up at her doorstep. After getting the unwelcome news that she’s pregnant, seventeen-year-old Dora (Chloe Rose) just wants to stay in on Halloween. But then a knock at the door delivers a gaggle of pint-sized demons after one thing: Dora’s baby. Director Bruce McDonald unleashes a hallucinatory visual and auditory assault that propels Hellions to increasingly disturbing realms of terror. Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) co-stars.
Deep within the darkness of secluded forest land in rural Ireland dwells an ancient evil. Feared by the nearby superstitious villagers as cursed creatures who prey upon the lost, their secrets have been kept from civilization and remain on their hallowed ground. But when a conservationist from London moves in with his wife and infant child in order to survey the land for future construction, his actions unwittingly disturb the horde of demonic forces. Alone in a remote wilderness, he must now ensure his family’s survival from their relentless attacks.
