Facing off against perhaps the biggest movie of the summer is no small feat, but CBS Films have taken the plunge with the announcement of a new release date. Premiering at Sundance Film Festival last month, we were fans of the coming-of-age dramedy Toy’s House (full review) and now its been retitled to The Kings of Summer, where it will go toe-to-toe with WB’s Man of Steel on June 14th.
In other release date news, Nicolas Lopez‘s Eli Roth-produced horror film Aftershock will be landing on May 10th and judging from our TIFF review, it’s one you don’t need to seek out. Moving ahead to the fall, Deadline reports that a September 6th limited bow has been given to the drama Snake & Mongoo$e, which follows a rivalry in the world of drag racing.
Jumping nearly a year head, Paramount and MGM have now shifted the Brett Ratner-directed, Dwayne Johnson-led tentpole Hercules, from an August 8th, 2014 bow to the prime date of July 25th, 2014. And lastly, after some word this week, the upcoming remake of Annie will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2014. Produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z, Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis will lead the film, to be directed by Easy A‘s Will Gluck.
