Here’s some terrific news: Shane Carruth‘s Upstream Color, one of the most widely-anticipated films of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will be making its way to New York City within the next couple of months. The 42nd annual New Directors/New Films Festival (abbreviated to ND/NF), which will take place in New York City from March 20-31, has unveiled its first handful of 2013 selections, and those joining Carruth’s Primer follow-up include Sarah Polley‘s acclaimed doc Stories We Tell, Tobias Lindholm‘s A Hijacking, and Rachid Djaïdani‘s Hold Back. This is (obviously) a wonderful revelation for someone like myself, who will not be going to Sundance but will, indeed, be in New York City during the aforementioned time period. (For those familiar with the area, the festival’s screenings will be held at both Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art.) I, unfortunately, didn’t take advantage of the ND/NF last year, but just glossing over the list of titles from 2012 — Beasts of the Southern Wild, How to Survive a Plague, Oslo, August 31st (my own personal favorite of 2012) — has me grinning wildly at the potential that may be in store for this year’s lineup.
The ND/NF, by the way, recently launched a polished new website, so be sure to head over there for more information on each of the seven early selections. And be sure to keep checking back as more and more titles are revealed — I’ve no doubt that the festival has many more quality selections in store for us.
What film are you most eager to see among this early crop of ND/NF selections?
