As reported in Variety, director Oliver Stone is set to direct the sequel to his 1987 critical gem Wall Street, starring Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen. Supposedly, “Shia LaBeouf is also in the mix for “Wall Street 2.”
The current economic crisis will be a plot point in the sequel and, supposing LaBeouf plays against Douglas (who is set to return), Gordon Gekko will get a new prodigy.
I’ve never been a big fan of Wall Street. For my money, Ben Younger’s Boiler Room is a far superior film. However, LaBeouf is a movie star and also a pretty good actor. Watching him play off veteran Douglas, as he did against Harrison Ford in Crystal Skull, is intriguing and possibly worth a sequel.
