While he’s popped up in Bright Star, I’m Not There, Perfume and more, it’s safe to say audiences will know Ben Whishaw‘s name by year’s end. The actor not only reteams with Tom Tykwer, taking a major role in Wachowskis‘ Cloud Atlas, he’s also our new gadget hound Q in Skyfall. Wasting no time, Variety now chimes in on another big blockbuster he’s looking to join.
Coming off Anne Hathaway‘s bid last night, Whishaw is now being lined up to star for Steven Spielberg in his sci-fi project Robopocalypse. Led by Chris Hemsworth, Drew Goddard is currently writing the script based on Daniel H. Wilson‘s novel of robot-human conflict.
In a book with no central character, The Cabin in the Woods director clearly has his work cut out for him and although there’s no word on what role the other two leads will play, we do know what Whishaw is going after. At the top of the studios’ list, the British actor would be taking on a character named Lurker, who plays a hacker. Regardless if he nabs the role, it’s certainly nice to see a talent like Whishaw in the Hollywood’s eye and we’ll update you on news as it comes in.
Robopocalypse hits theaters in April 25th, 2014.
