In late 2009, the Broadway production A Steady Rain, written by Keith Huff and starring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, was released and played for twelve weeks to a great reception. Now, Jackman says that Steven Spielberg is interested in bringing the story to movie theaters.
The synopsis, courtesy of ComingSoon:
“A Steady Rain focuses on two Chicago policemen who inadvertently return a Vietnamese boy to a cannibalistic serial killer who claims to be the child’s uncle. When he later becomes the man’s latest victim, the lifelong friendship of the two men is threatened when it becomes clear someone must bear responsibility for their egregious failure to assess the situation accurately.”
Not only is the plot is very intriguing, but the Chicago setting could lend itself to some beautiful cinematography. Craig and Jackman have yet to confirm whether or not they will be reprising their roles, but they were both applauded for their performances when the show ran, and considering that they’re big movie stars, it seems likely that Spielberg would want them back.
A release date is unclear, but won’t be for a while as Spielberg is a very busy man at the moment. He has War Horse and The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn (which happens to star Craig) coming out this Christmas, and Lincoln is seeing a release next December, so if he does decide to direct the film, a release sometime during or after 2013 would seem the most plausible.
