Sony is dealing with Steve Zaillian to begin on an adaptation of The Girl Who Played With Fire. This is the second book in the Millennium Trilogy, written by Stieg Larsson. Zaillian has already written The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, in which David Fincher will direct this fall. [Deadline]
Fincher is currently underway a strenuous search to find Lisbeth Salander. Whoever he signs, along with Daniel Craig (Mikael Blomkvist), will be optioned for both The Girl Who Played With Fire and the third adaptation, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest.
Sony would like to get started on production of a sequel as soon as possible. The trilogy has sold 27 million copies and already been made into a film trilogy in Sweden. The Girl Who Played With Fire is currently in limited release here in the US. As for Fincher’s first adaptation, it will be released on December 21, 2011.
