Comedy directing duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra have been tied to the upcoming Steve Carell romantic comedy. Warner Brothers has tapped the two who are fresh off the small market comedy I Love You Phillip Morris set to be released in March.
The untitled project, starring Steve Carell and written by Dan Fogelman (Bolt), is about “a father whose life unravels as he faces a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children” [Variety].Although it sounds suspiciously like the disaster Dan in Real Life, Carell is obviously trying to break out of his niche. He can also be spotted in the romantic comedy Date Night, due in April. Whether or not he will be able to reprise the success he had in The 40 Year Old Virgin or in his smash TV enterprise The Office is yet to be seen. With the latter seemingly waning in popularity it will be interesting to see how he evolves.
Will this be another Dan in Real Life? Can Carell effectively branch out?
