According to MTV Movie Blog, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is looking to reboot the Spawn film series. He said that the new film would not focus on Spawn as the main character but rather the man chasing Spawn. He also stated that he is keeping Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond, The Departed) in the back of his mind.
Now this seems like an interesting idea, I mean it has been done before. It is similar to the way Christopher Nolan did The Dark Knight by not focusing on Batman but rather how the essence of Batman has affected Gotham and created people like The Joker and Harvey Dent/Two Face. It is with the casting news in which I become weary. I really doubt that academy award nominated DiCaprio would be be interested in playing a superhero. That isn’t meant to be an insult to super hero films but DiCaprio really isn’t meant for a comic book film especially Spawn of all things. Having seen the first Spawn film there is definitely room for much improvement so I can only hope that the film gets a chance to make things right.
