Making its world premiere at this year’s SXSW Festival, Detention was a movie that polarized its audiences. Some loved it for being completely insane and over the top while strangely coherent while others were frightened and confused much like an unfrozen caveman lawyer. I belonged in the former, as my SXSW review and comments in our SXSW wrap-up will attest to. And ever since I first saw Detention, one thought has crossed my mind infinitely: I need to see this again to make sure it wasn’t a fever dream.
Now it looks like I, and the audiences who missed out, will get the chance. THR reports that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up the worldwide distribution rights for Joseph Kahn‘s flick. Here’s what Scott Shooman, the Vice President of Production for SPWA, had to say about the pick up: “The pace, energy and awesomeness Kahn has achieved in Detention are completely mind-blowing in the best way possible.” See? He gets it.
No word on when Detention will be released, but the sooner the better. People need to experience this for themselves, a movie with this kind of insanity rarely gets the chance to shine. As an added bonus, here’s the trailer for the film below which stars Josh Hutcherson and Dane Cook (don’t worry it’s one of his good ones):
On a scale from 1-10, how excited are you to see Detention? Anything lower than 8 and I’m calling you out for the liar you are!
