With Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man still in production, Sony has already started work on a sequel. They’ve hired writer of the upcoming 2012 blockbuster, James Vanderbilt, to start working on the sequel script.
Vanderbilt is a talented writer, whose best work remains David Fincher‘s Zodiac. He has also had a hand in The Losers, The Rundown, Basic, and the upcoming Total Recall remake. He even worked with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire before Spider-Man 4 was canned.THR reports he met with the Spidey filmmakers and studio execs yesterday “outlining his take, getting a thumbs up, and will now begin writing.”
With The Amazing Spider-Man, Vanderbilt has focused on “a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.” The impressive cast includes Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field.
The film will wrap production mid-April and will see a 3D release on July 3rd, 2012.
What do you want to see in a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man? Can anyone honestly answer that question without even seeing the first?
