The last we heard about the upcoming horror sequel Silent Hill: Revelation 3D : Sean Bean is returning (with an inexplicable character name-change), as is Radha Mitchell and it’ll be released in 3D (shock!). Then things went quiet – which isn’t exactly a surprise, given the overall poor reception of Christophe Gans‘s original.

Still, we have news from First Showing: Carrie-Ann Moss and Malcolm McDowell are joining the cast of writer-director Michael J. Bassett‘s sequel. No word yet on what roles they’ll be playing, but we do have a new image of young stars Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harrington:

While some pictures are worth a thousand words, this one is worth about three: What’s our motivation?

What else to say about a sequel no one seems to care about to a movie no one really needed? Adapting a video game is bad enough idea – although I think the Fallout games have potential. Silent Hill, though… the Konami series probably looked good on paper: disappearances in a creepy town, monsters, occult-ish bugaboos… what went wrong? The Roger Avary-scripted original kept halting it’s forward momentum to backtrack and catch everyone up on some brand-new back-stories before launching into another gruesome, CGI-laden shock sequence.

If you’re still interested, here’s a synopsis:

“For years, Heather Mason (Clemmons) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.”

Do you have any idea what this will be about? Can you make an educated guess who Moss and McDowell will play?
