Earlier this month it was reported that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director Shane Black is in contention to reunite with Robert Downey Jr. and helm Iron Man 3. Deadline now confirms he is in “final negotiations” to direct the superhero blockbuster for Marvel. It hasn’t been decided if he will write the film, but you can assume he will have a part in the scripting process. As we know, franchise starter Jon Favreau has left the series to direct Magic Kingdom for Disney.
We recently reported Black is attached to direct a live-action adaptation of the popular manga series Death Note, as well as an update on Doc Savage. He was also linked to a Cold War-era spy thriller with Mel Gibson, titled Cold Warrior. With Black getting the Iron Man 3 gig, he truly could turn the series around after a shoddy second film, and a stock first film.
Iron Man 3 will hit theaters May 3, 2013.
