With years of rumors including Sean Penn, Johnny Knoxville, Benecio del Toro, Jim Carrey, Justin Timberlake, and many, many more, casting is actually getting finalized. With MadTV star Will Sasso locked as Curly, we finally have another name to add to the list. Variety reports that Sean Hayes has been locked into the role of Larry Fine, with only Moe left to cast in our trio. Most notably from Will & Grace, Hayes has a light feature film resume, only recently appearing in Soul Men and The Bucket List. And of course, reprising his role of Mr. Tinkles in Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.

The Farrelly Brothers have ambitious goals for the $30 million PG-rated slapstick film. They will break the film up into three 27-minute segments, structured like the originals. While still “a single story,” they tell Deadline “there will be non-stop slapping, more in the tone of Dumb and Dumber than anything else we’ve done. Our goal is 85 minutes of laughs in a film that will be very respectful of who the Stooges were. It’s by far the riskiest project we’ve ever done, without question, but it is also the one closest to our hearts.”

Although they haven’t made a genuinely great comedy since Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary, with as much passion as they have for this, it’s hard not to be somewhat intrigued. They’ve certainly got an interesting cast forming and we’ll keep you updated on the final announcements.

Do you think Hayes is a good fit for Larry? Who should be cast as Moe?
