The Playlist have highlighted an in-depth look at the script of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s upcoming film, The Master. The project was announced about two months ago but there hasn’t been much info except the story being somewhat based around L. Ron Hubbard and starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Check out a plot synopsis below.
The film focuses on a guy in his ’20s called Freddie, who leaves the Navy after his appendix bursts. He swiftly becomes an alcoholic, and begins brewing his own beer, but when it almost kills an immigrant worker, he runs away to sea again, and falls under the spell of a man known as “Master” (Hoffman’s character), a family man who is also the leader of his own religion.

The review goes pretty in-depth so if you don’t want to be spoiled at all, I don’t recommend reading the the review. Either way, the film sounds pretty fascinating and I can already see it fitting in thematically with PTA‘s other films.
Does this script review make you even more interested for The Master or does the entire project just sound strange?
