Around a year ago it was announced that Scott Frank (The Lookout) was to helm Caesar, a re-imagining of the great Conquest Planet of the Apes. Apparently he’s ditched the project and according to CHUD it all comes down to 20th Century Fox getting cold feet. They found the script to be too dark and the budget to be too big. There are still no details as to whether or not 20th Century Fox will be movie ahead with Caesar aka a reboot of The Planet of the Apes series.
As a Planet of the Apes fan, this news is quite disappointing. After Tim Burton’s hilariously cringe inducing remake, it would have been nice to see this series get back on track. It was even nicer that Scott Frank would be directing since The Lookout was nothing short of great. Here’s hoping that we see those damn dirty apes sometime soon.
