Deadline is reporting that master director Martin Scorsese will cast Sacha Baron Cohen and Shutter Island‘s Ben Kingsley in his upcoming children’s film The Invention of Hugo Cabret, based on the Brian Selznick book. The film follows the “the 12-year old title character, an orphan who lives in the walls of a Paris train station in 1930.” Kingsley will play George Melies, the filmmaker who was known for his “magic” tricks through editing in his early silent films. Baron Cohen will take on the role of the station inspector.
Scorsese recently spoke out in favor of 3D, but no news about filming Cabret in 3D has come up. John Logan (The Aviator, Sweeney Todd) has written the script and it is set to shoot this spring in Paris.
Are you looking forward to Scorsese taking on a children’s film? What about with Baron Cohen and Kingsley?
