In a stark turnaround from previous years, Netflix is having an incredible fall when it comes their original films, with the release of critically acclaimed films such as Happy as Lazzaro, Shirkers, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Other Side of the Wind, Private Life, and Roma. It looks to be adding onto its success with Bird Box, an upcoming apocalyptic drama directed by Susanne Bier.
Written by Eric Heisserer (Arrival), Bird Box follows the story of Sandra Bullock’s Malorie, a woman who is trying desperately to save her family from a mysterious force that kills you once you make eye contact with it. Terrified and blindfolded, Malorie and her kids venture into the forest and face some perilous danger in order to achieve safety.
Co-starring Sarah Paulson, John Malkovich, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Colson Baker, and BD Wong, Bird Box will be premiering at AFI Fest on November 12th and dropping on Netflix December 21st.
